Joel Hinck is a composer, songwriter and worship leader striving to create meaningful songs with biblical and diverse texts. His focus is on music that will be useful for congregational singing- melodies that can be learned and sung by the Church body coupled with words that engage the heart and the mind. He is currently Director of Music at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie, MD.
Joel has a degree in music composition from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. In 2009, Joel quit his job and gave his career and his music fully to God. He committed himself to writing a new worship song every week for six months, and each week released a podcast in which he talked about the themes, scripture influences, and writing process behind the songs. These songs are collected in the albums Word Like Fire Volume 1 and Word Like Fire Volume 2.
After that initial burst, Joel continued to write, along with leading worship in local churches. His latest album, Voice in the Darkness was written over the course of several years, and speaks to both the difficulties and joys of the Christian life.
